Could You Have Eco-Anxiety?

I'm willing to bet that most of you have never heard of eco-anxiety. Well, neither did I until I stumbled upon an article written by Perri Peltz on the NBC's Earth's Green Week Blog. Mr. Peltz was assigned to report on eco-anxiety and the first thing he did was go and interview the man who coined the term eco-anxiety. This gentleman was also the editor of Plenty Magazine.

He claims her first realized eco-anxiety existed when one of his reporters was no longer able to get out of her bed because she was so certain and fearful that she would soon face extinction. She believes that she is experiencing these symptoms because of her extensive coverage of global warming stories.
Apparently eco-anxiety can be brought on by worrying needlessly about such things as the coral reef changing colors, wide spread droughts, and the vast amount of pollutants dispersed into the air from automobiles. Hopefully none of these examples have made your palms sweaty or your heart feel like it's going to jump out of your chest but if they have I've got bad news, eco-anxiety does not respond well to antidepressants. The best thing to do is get involved with the efforts to reduce global warming!

How do you get involved you ask? Well, switch to compact fluorescent bulbs, install programmable thermostats, use solar lighting for exterior landscaping, wrapping your hot water tank to conserve heat, and buying energy star appliances.
