May 6, 2010: The Day In News

Today I feel like expressing my thoughts and concerns about two topics that are currently in our nation's news and instead of making two seperate posts I'll just combine them into one.
The first thing I want to talk about is the tragedy that Nashville is going through. Nashville has experienced devastating and for lack of a better word "biblical" rain fall as of late. There are estimates of over 1 billion in damages and 31 deaths. What really irritates me about all of this is that the news media has failed to adequately cover this horrific situation. When the Indonesian Tsunami occurred news channels around the country covered the story in phenomenal detail. When Haiti had its recent earthquake, once again news channels covered in phenomenal detail. Even the volcano eruption in Iceland seemed to have more news coverage. So, how come the disparity with this tragedy that is happening on our own soil? My answer--I can honestly say I do not know. However I will tip my hat to Anderson Cooper who spoke about the Nashville Crisis and vowed to cover the story. The second and final topic I'd like to discuss is Lawrence Taylor. It's my understanding that he is/was being charged with rape and solicitation. Now I know that currently these are just allegations but let's face it, Taylor should have never been in a situation like this to begin with. If these allegations turn out to be true it is impossible to understand what a 51 year old man was thinking when getting involved with a 16 year old. Now I know he is a celebrity and will probably claim the same thing that they all do when they get in trouble that he was either set up or all of the allegations are false and he'll hope his high powered attorney can work the system and save his behind once more. And with the judicial system the way it is (yes I served on a jury before and have a few gripes with the system) he probably would get off except that his problematic past might actually catch up with him. Either way, in my opinion this guy is a knuckle head.

Here's a good article in the USA Today about the Taylor situation:

What else is there to say but goodnight and goodnight to you Mrs. Amore, wherever you may be.
