New Zealand Cafe Mistakes Dishwashing Liquid For Wine

According to The News Vault: Two women have been hospitalized after a New Zealand cafe mistakenly served dishwashing liquid as mulled wine.

Old Man Rock Cafe in the mountain resort of Queenstown on South Island has been charged with serving food containing extraneous matter - the chemical sodium hydroxide - that caused injury, the Southland Times newspaper reports.
It all started when customer Sarah Ferguson ordered a glass of 'Mountain Thunder' mulled wine from Queenstown's Old Man Rock Cafe. She took a swallow and spat out the liquid when she experienced a burning sensation on her lips and mouth.
Cafe worker Bethany Sim insisted there was nothing wrong with the drink and even offered to test the drink -- suffering a similar reaction.
"A check by cafe management indicated that a mulled wine container had unfortunately been filled with dishwashing detergent," Prosecutor Sarah McKenzie tells the court.
An investigation showed the two liquids had been mixed up after 5.2 gallons of dishwashing liquid was delivered in a container previously used to hold the 'Mountain Thunder' mulled wine.
The company will be sentenced next month and faces a possible fine and cost of the woman's treatment for "burns and scaring of her throat."
I guess what we all knew to be true in the United States is true around the world. People will sue anyone about anything for something!
