Global One World Classroom

Currently engulfed with and engaged in research for my dissertation I have come to realize that existing teaching methods need to be reevaluated. Traditional brick and mortar style schools may not be allowing students to reach their full potential because of the lack of teacher student recognition.
By recognition I mean teachers may spend 5% of their time next to the student recognizing exactly what that particular student’s needs are. Here Salman (Sal) and the Khan Academy come into play. According to Khan Academy’s website, what started out as Sal making a few algebra videos for his cousins has grown to over 2,100 videos and 100 self-paced exercises and assessments covering everything from arithmetic to physics, finance, and history.

Not only are the videos and tips free on the Internet but also Sal has begun working with Los Altos and two of their fifth and seventh grade classes. Los Altos and Khan Academy set up a dashboard in the classrooms, and envisioned every student working at his or her own pace with teachers devoting most of his or her classroom time to helping the students in his or her problem areas. As with other innovative ideas the Khan Academy is basically in its trial run in the classroom but based on student responses and grades there appears to be no reason this innovative learning system should not be incorporated into every classroom in the future.

What else is there to say but goodnight and goodnight to you Mrs. Amore, wherever you may be.
